Job Description


We  are happy to be working with out client who  provides a full range of engineering, construction and testing services, including aerial and underground construction capabilities for coaxial, and fiber optic cable systems, on the OSP Engineer Level 3/4 based on Glendale, WI.  Relocation  assistance is available.

Position Summary:
We are currently looking for an Outside Plant Engineer that is highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail. Must have in-depth knowledge and experience with route engineering, permitting, CAD drawing, database entry, relocations, and inspections of underground and aerial construction projects.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Engineer aerial and underground facilities.
  • Maintain records of fiber rings and splice locations and network topography.
  • Manage emergency restoration including coordinating and managing crews, ordering materials and supplies, and coordinating with customers.
  • Verify available fiber through maps and documentation.
  • Identify and assign hub, panel, and port for customer circuit turn-up and test.
  • Propose fiber path from splice case to build port.
  • Research and acquire permits, Rights of Way and Easement Agreements.
  • Respond to and plan for fiber relocations 
  • Manage and conduct QC on outsourced contractor fiber engineered projects.
  • Schedule fiber construction projects and oversees compliance of safety standards and quality control of fiber construction projects.
  • Estimate OSP projects by detail.
  • Prepare project documentation, maps and CAD drawings.
  • Consistently exercise independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance; coordinating inhouse and contracted resources to meet customer deadlines, efficient allocation of fiber assets throughout network, and tactfully resolving customer concerns.
  • Review and validate As-Built documentation from Subcontractors.
  • Manage and maintain network mapping software/database.
  • Attend customer meetings, and perform site surveys/walk-outs, as necessary, to understand customer requirements and time frames.
  • Prepare and communicate project status reports on a consistent basis.
  • Accurately complete timesheets, expense reports, mileage reports, and other job-related paperwork.

Job Qualifications:
  • Requires a Bachelor of Science Degree in a relevant field of Engineering and five years of related experience (technical knowledge of the industry, construction practices, and local governing authority rules for placement of telecommunications facilities)
  • Ocalc,  AutoCad Map3D  andGIS  a plus
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as technical specifications, professional documentation and blueprints. 
  • Ability to write reports, correspondence and documentation.  Ability to communicate effectively with vendors, customers and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. 
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions of practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. 
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or scheduled form.
  • Demonstrated skill in the use of AutoCAD, MapInfo, MS Excel, MS Word, MS Outlook, O-Calc (or equivalent), Lode Data, GPS handheld systems, and other software as necessary. 
  • Has a strong understanding of fiber optics and dark fiber applications, familiarity with Digger’ s Hotline (or “ One Call” system equivalent) and their field markings.
  • Knowledge of NECS codes.   
  • Requires a valid driver’ s license and must be insurable.  Out of town travel and overnight travel may be required. 
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet ambiguous deadlines. 
  • Has a working knowledge of splicing documents/splice matrix’ s (preferred).
